Vancouver Virtual Learning Academy

The Vancouver Virtual Learning Academy is a public, online alternative to the traditional classroom and serves students in grades 6-12 in Clark County. The online program is brought to you by Vancouver Public Schools and provides full-time and part-time options. You are eligible for this program if you:

  • Are under the age of 21
  • AND
  • Reside in Southwest Washington
  • Have successfully completed the 5th grade
  • Are willing to take all of your classes online
  • Are willing to attend a three hour computer lab session per week at the Jim Parsley Community Center. (Waivers are possible due to traveling distance.)

FAQs

Are the graduation requirements different than other schools?
No. Vancouver Virtual Learning Academy students are enrolled in Vancouver Public Schools and follow the graduation requirements of all other high schools.

How do students complete a Culminating Project and High School and Beyond Plan?
Students receive guidance for completing the Culminating Project and High School and Beyond Plan by an assigned educational consultant with the Vancouver Public Schools.

Can a student graduate from Vancouver Virtual Learning Academy?
Students may earn all credits for graduation from Vancouver Virtual Learning Academy. However, Vancouver Virtual Learning Academy does not conduct graduation ceremonies. Students will determine a local high school to participate in graduation ceremonies.

Do students have an opportunity to participate in sports?
All students at Vancouver Virtual Learning Academy may participate in WIAA sports at the neighborhood high school.

Can a student with an IEP enroll?
The Principal in consultation with the Vancouver Public Schools Special Education Department will determine if the Specially Designed Instruction described in the IEP may be addressed in a hybrid onsite and online learning environment.

Can a student with a 504 Plan enroll?
If a student has a 504 Plan the parent must provide a copy to the Principal of Vancouver Virtual Learning Academy for review. The Principal in consultation with the Vancouver Public Schools 504 Compliance Administrator will determine if the details of the 504 Plan may be met in an online learning environment.

Do students have to take the High School Proficiency Exams and End of Course Exams?
Yes. Vancouver Virtual Learning Academy students are enrolled in the Vancouver Public Schools and are required to participate in all District and State assessments. Students will take all assessments in person at a predetermined site.

How does a student enroll?

  • Begin enrollment process by completing online application;
  • Complete an enrollment interview;
  • Complete Vancouver Public School and program enrollment forms;
  • Complete internet course tutorial.
Do students meet with anyone in person?
Yes. Each student is required to have face to face contact with an educational consultant to discuss progress in courses each week. In some cases, contact may be completed by phone, email, or other electronic means.

What if a student decides to drop a course?
If a student drops a course the grade of F will show on the Academic History and a fee may be imposed.

How many classes can a student be enrolled in?
Vancouver Virtual Learning Academy's goal is for all students to graduate on time with 23 earned credits. Therefore, students generally are required to earn 6 credits per academic year. Special circumstances may be considered to assure that the online learning experience will be successful.

Will report cards be given?
Yes. All students will receive an official semester report card.
